Corey Dewayne Smith is a United States Army JAG Corps veteran who has recently transitioned from a career as a paralegal into the field of social work. During his time in the military, Corey primarily worked as a paralegal in the JAG Corps, providing legal support to military attorneys and assisting with the management of military legal issues including but not limited to the areas of military Justice, and detainee operations. He was responsible for conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and assisting in the preparation of court-martial cases. After serving his country for several years, Corey decided to pursue a career in Criminal Defense as a paralegal and moving into the field of training. Recognizing the importance of social work in criminal defense and how it can be used to make a positive impact on the lives of clients as well as office personnel, this skill set has been incorporated into his curriculum development. He completed a bachelor's degree in justice studies from Arizona State University and is now working towards a Master of Social Work degree. Corey's military experience has provided him with a unique perspective on the challenges faced by veterans and their families. He is passionate about serving this population and has volunteered with several organizations that provide support and resources to veterans. Corey also has experience working with individuals and families who have experienced trauma, including victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. As a paralegal, Corey developed strong analytical and problem-solving skills that he now applies to his work in social work. He is committed to helping individuals and families overcome challenges and achieve their goals, and he believes that his military background has prepared him well for this work. Corey is excited to bring his skills and experience to the field of social work and make a positive impact on the lives of those he serves.
