80% of criminal cases involve some form of video evidence, and increased volumes of audiovisual discovery are fundamentally transforming modern criminal defense practice.

Devshi Mehrotra and Leslie Jones-Dove started building JusticeText while they were both undergraduate computer science students in Chicago looking to use their technical background to support criminal justice reform efforts in their city. They partnered with public defense agencies across the country to build an evidence management tool to expedite the review of high volumes of body camera footage, interrogation videos, jail calls, and other audiovisual discovery.

Their software generates automated transcripts of evidence and makes it easy for public defenders to take time-stamped notes, generate video clips, and catalog their information in one centralized platform. You can read about some of the early success stories emerging from their pilot program below:

Devshi and Leslie will be launching JusticeText in early spring 2021 and are excited to connect with additional public defenders who could benefit from their project during the session.
