People with disabilities--including intellectual, psychiatric, physical, and sensory disabilities--are increasingly having children. Simultaneously, extensive research documents disproportionately high rates of child welfare system involvement and termination of parental rights among parents with disabilities and their children. This session will describe strategies and solutions for representing parents with disabilities. In particular, it will examine the application of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to the child welfare system as well as recent court decisions and investigations by the federal government.
