My presentation will address the impact of the pandemic on the mental health and well-being of individuals incarcerated in the US prison system.  I will be discussing the factors that increase inmates’ vulnerability to COVID-19 and risk of associated adverse psychological and neurological health outcomes.  I will also be addressing ways that this may impact a defendant’s ability to assist their attorney in their defense.  My goal for the presentation is to increase awareness into the emotional and cognitive impediments associated with COVID-19 and trauma, in order to promote and encourage a compassionate, trauma-focused approach to litigation.
