Michigan State Appellate Defender Office
SADO is not your average appellate office. Michigan's unique appellate system allows our attorneys to expand the record on appeal, practice in the trial court for evidentiary hearings and resentencings, and regularly argue in the Court of Appeals, Michigan Supreme Court, and occasionally, federal courts. We see our clients as an integral part of the defense team, and as such, we visit our clients at Michigan's prisons and jails and communicate with them throughout the course of the appeal. Our office also runs Project Reentry, a unit that helps prepare our clients return home from incarceration, and a Juvenile Lifer Unit, a unit that represents 193 of Michigan's 364 juvenile lifers. In addition to attorneys, we have a team of administrators, IT, paralegals, mitigation specialists, investigators, and reentry specialists. If you're interested in learning more about a fulfilling career at our office, contact Deputy Director Marilena David-Martin, mdavid@sado.org. Follow us @SADOmich and @SADOreentry.
